JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – North Florida softball earned the series sweep with an 8-3 win over Jacksonville at Debbie & Fred Pruitt Softball Complex on Sunday. They remain unbeaten in ASUN conference play at 9-0 with three-straight sweeps.
The Ospreys built a three-run lead with a pair of runs in the second and one in the third inning. After a leadoff single from junior
Kirsten Caravaca, redshirt-senior
Mackenzie Woods plated the initial pair of runs of the night with a two-run home run to left field.
UNF continued to do damage in the third inning with runners on the corner and Caravaca up to bat. Caravaca pieced a hard-hit ball to third base that led to a wild throw and drove Woods home to make it 3-0.
Jacksonville plated a pair of runs in the bottom of the third and one more in the fourth inning to tie it at 3-3.
With the score tied, UNF answered back to plate five runs with a two-out rally in the top of the fifth inning. With runners on first and second, Caravaca ripped a stand-up triple to make it 5-3.
Senior
Hadlee Reichert drove in Caravaca to extend the lead to 6-3 before Woods picked up her third and fourth RBI of the night with a single up to middle to make it 8-3.
Allison Benning took over in the circle in the fourth and recorded four strikeouts, one hit and no earned runs over 3.2 relief innings pitched.
