CHARLOTTE, N.C. - A strong performance from
Will Ross and early runs propelled North Florida to a 4-3 win against Queens on Friday evening.
North Florida (13-9, 2-2 ASUN) struck first in the top of the first.
Nick Monile tripled on the first pitch of the game. With a runner at third,
Jabin Bates scored Monile on a sac fly to go up 1-0 against Queens (4-16, 2-2 ASUN)
Leading 1-0 in the second,
Carter White doubled. He advanced to third on a ground ball and scored on a sac fly from
Brady Browning which put UNF ahead 2-0.
The Ospreys continued their hot hitting in the third. Monile reached on a leadoff walk. He stole second and advanced to third on a bunt single from
Connor Moore. Moore stole second and
Cade Bush cracked a two-run single which gave North Florida a four-run advantage.
Queens broke into the run column in the seventh. With two outs, Lenox Lively (1) crushed a solo home run that made it 4-1.
The Royals chipped away at their deficit in the eighth. Anibal Rivera was hit by a pitch to start the inning. He moved to second and third on a wild pitch and flyout. With two outs, Justin Hudson reached on an error that scored Rivera. A hit by pitch from Will Budnick and a walk from Tyler Peters loaded the bases for Queens. With the bases loaded, Rivera scored on a passed ball which made it 4-3.
