JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - A quality start from
Bryson Treichel was not enough for North Florida as Jacksonville rallied late and won 5-3, Saturday from Harmon Stadium.
Trailing 2-1 in the seventh, Sammy Mummau reached on an error with two outs for Jacksonville (11-8, 1-1 ASUN). Jaden Bastian reached base on a wacky fielder's choice. On the play, Mummau was caught between third and home, dove back into third safely, and Bastian advanced to second during the commotion. With runners at second and third, Jonah Shields smacked a two-run single which gave JU a 3-2 lead over North Florida (11-8, 1-1 ASUN).
Jacksonville added two more runs in the eighth. Chandler Howard (3) cracked a solo home run. Three batters later, Carson Stevens (1) clobbered another home run which gave the Dolphins a 5-2 advantage.
North Florida rallied in the ninth.
Cade Bush doubled to start the inning.
Brady Browning singled and it pushed Bush to third. Following a lineout,
Drew Leinenbach walked. With the bases loaded,
Nick Monile reached on an error which scored Bush. Despite the bases remaining loaded, Jacksonville reliever Nick Anello struck out back-to-back Ospreys to end the game.
The Dolphins struck first in the top of the first. Bastian walked to start the game. He stole second and scored later in the inning on an RBI single from Josh Steidal.
UNF responded in the second.
Carter White singled to start the inning. Following a flyout, Bush singled. Two batters later, Ordonez ripped an RBI single to tie the game at one.
Locked in a 1-1 tie,
Nick Monile singled to start the third. He later stole second after a strikeout, and scored a few pitches later on an RBI single from
Connor Moore.
Bryson Treichel put together the best outing of his young collegiate career. The righty tossed six innings of one-run ball and struck out ten. He is the first UNF pitcher to strikeout ten in a game since
Tony Roca in 2024 (March 17 at Queens).
