Softball Takes Early-Morning Victory Against MTSU, 4-1

Ospreys Pick Up Four Wins at JU-UNF Invitational

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - North Florida softball pulled out its fourth win of the JU-UNF Invitational in a 4-1 victory against MTSU to finish out the weekend on Sunday afternoon.

The Ospreys faced off against the Blue Raiders in a game that started at 9 a.m., due to weather concerns later in the day. After a defensive battle through a pair of frames, Allison Benning gave herself run support and smashed a solo bomb for put a number on the scoreboard.

Two more runs scored in the fourth inning for UNF after a stolen base plus an error that brought in an unearned run. Kirsten Caravaca put a nail in the coffin of MTSU with an RBI single in the fifth to secure another win in its rematch against the Blue Raiders.

  • Benning posted an incredible week from the plate with five total home runs, including three in her last four games.
  • Her total has now gotten to seven home runs on the season in 13 games played.
  • She also has nine hits in her past six games to raise her average to .394.
  • The senior killed it from the circle as well with seven strikeouts and only one hit allowed to MTSU.
  • She has combined for 17 strikeouts in her two outings at the JU-UNF Invitational.
  • Caravaca put together the finishing touches with her fourth multi-hit game, plus her sixth RBI on the year.
