Men's Tennis Takes West Coast Trip For Trio of Matches

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - North Florida men's tennis (1-3) is set take on a triplet of new foes this weekend as they head out to the West Coast this weekend from Jan. 31-Feb. 2 in Seattle, Wash.

The Ospreys travel to the Evergreen State, where they are set to play against Portland, Utah, and Washington, all of which are new opponents in program history for the Ospreys. All three programs head into this weekend's action with undefeated records and are looking to test their skills against the reigning ASUN champs.

Opponent: Portland Pilots

About the Opponent – Portland (2-0)
  • Portland is undefeated this season with wins over Utah State and Idaho.
  • Senior Maxim Groysman is undefeated in singles (2-0) while starring on court one for the pilots.
  • Sophomore Tom Garcia is undefeated (2-0) in singles play this season, while managing to not lose a set yet from court four.
  • Head Coach Aaron Gross embarked on his 22nd season at the helm of the Pilots this season.
  • Last season, the Pilots held a 9-10 record, where they went on to play Pacific in the opening round of the West Coast Conference tournament.

About the Opponent – Utah (2-0)
  • The Utes are undefeated this season, with both wins coming over Idaho State.
  • Graduate student Jarvis Reid is undefeated (2-0) in singles play to start the season.
  • Head Coach Roeland Brateanu enters his 11th season as head coach of the Utes this season.
  • Last season, the Utes went 3-20 where they went on to face Washington in the first round of the Pac-12 Championships.

About the Opponent – Washington (3-0)
  • Washington is undefeated (3-0) this season with wins over Seattle, Portland State and Gonzaga.
  • Senior Cesar Bouchelaghem is undefeated in singles (2-0) this season with both wins from court one.
  • The Huskies bring in a couple of ITA ranked singles players in Senior Cesar Bouchelaghem who comes in at No. 49 and Senior teammate Dzianis Zharyn at No. 76.
  • Rahim Ismeal enters his third season as head coach of the Huskies and holds a 24-26 record in spring play.
  • Last season, the Huskies held a 9-15 record in a season, where they advanced to the Pac-12 Quarterfinals before losing to Stanford.


NORTH FLORIDA NOTES

  • UNF is set to embark on its first trip to the West Coast since the fall season of 2016, where they travelled to Pepperdine, Calif.
  • Sophomore Chase Healey leads the Ospreys in singles wins this season with two, both at home against Troy and Gardner-Webb.
  • The Ospreys have never played against the likes of Portland, Utah, and Washington in its program's history.
