Men's Soccer Falls in Road Test to Georgia Southern

STATESBORO, Ga. - After a gritty first half, North Florida men's soccer (1-3-2) suffered a 4-1 loss against Georgia Southern (3-0-1) on Monday evening.

The Ospreys were in a tight one through the first 60 minutes of the game with the score at 1-0 with the offense trying to gain momentum. Although a late goal was scored by Luc Granitur in the 87th minute, three goals allowed over a span of seven minutes ended up being fatal for UNF on the road to the Eagles.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • UNF and Georgia Southern were in a tight defensive battle through the first 15 minutes with only one shot attempt from each team.
  • The Eagles broke through first with a goal in the 19th minute, but it was followed moments later with a great save from Iu Pentinat and the Osprey defense.
  • A late push from the UNF offense was made as the time was dwindling down on the half, but the clock expired before they could execute.
  • Another save from Pentinat opened up the second half for the Ospreys to disallow another score for Georgia Southern.
  • A trio of scores were made by the Eagles over a seven-minute span to put the game out of reach for UNF.
  • Granitur picked up his sixth-career goal in the final minutes of the game to secure a 4-1 score on the road.

QUICK KICKS

  • Granitur's goal was is the sixth score of the season, the fifth goal scored by UNF in the second half and the third scored in the 80th minute or later.
  • The redshirt junior also now ties the team lead for points with Jaxon Reinhardt with four with a goal and two assists so far on the season.
  • The Ospreys put up 15 total shots, including 10 in the second half, as well as back-to-back games of five saves by Pentinat.
  • UNF combined for four shots on goal with one each from Granitur, Acuna, Reinhardt and Jaylen Yearwood.
  • Anton Khelil joined Acuna and Granitur with having multiple shot attempts, combining for seven of the 15 shots.
  • Yearwood appeared in his first game of the year after nursing an injury through the first five matches.
