Volleyball Clipped in Five at FAMU

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - Despite a career-high in kills from Amy Burkhardt and double-doubles from Annie Antar and Burkhardt, North Florida volleyball (2-2) was clipped by Florida A&M (2-2) in five frames Wednesday, Sept. 4.

- Set 1: FAMU created a 15-12 lead, but a 4-0 run on Maymie Guthrie's serve put the Ospreys ahead by one and forced the Rattlers into a timeout … UNF appeared to take a 23-20 lead, but FAMU won a challenge to trim the margin to one … the Rattlers evened things up 23-23 despite Amy Burkhardt's fourth kill of the set, forcing a timeout … both sides worked around opposing set points as the set went well past the 25-marker … the challenge favored UNF next time around as the Ospreys reversed set point … FAMU eventually won the set on a block.
- Set 2: Both sides traded spurts of scoring as things were even at 10-10 … all even at 15, Annie Antar scored on a dump shot kill and Burkhardt followed with her seventh kill of the match … Jacqueline Arrington posted a block to continue the run … North Florida reached a 23-19 lead, but FAMU clawed back with a 3-0 run to force UNF into a timeout … North Florida created three-straight set points, point service errors allowed FAMU to hang in the set … UNF won a challenge and Burkhardt concluded the set with a kill off the block in a 29-27 second set victory.
- Set 3: Down 8-5, UNF turned on a 4-0 run to take a 9-8 lead … tied 17, FAMU committed consecutive errors and called timeout … North Florida was resilient late once again, hanging on to win the third set, 25-23
- Set 4: UNF used a 6-1 run to overturn FAMU's early lead and take an 11-9 advantage … FAMU would hit .393 and force a fifth set.
- Set 5: The Rattlers took a 3-0 lead, but Dakota Skye-Spurrier slowed the run with a kill and Janelly Ceopa posted an ace … Burkhardt reached a career-high 20 kills as FAMU held an 8-7 lead at the changeover … Jacqueline Arrington's kill gave UNF a 9-8 lead, its first of the set … the Rattlers would close it out, 15-11.Â
