BATON ROUGE, La. - North Florida volleyball continued a gauntlet of a stretch on the road, coming up short against Boston College (7-3) and San Diego (3-5) in the opening day at Louisiana State Thursday, Sept. 19.
UNF 1, BC 3 (20-25, 15-25, 25-22, 14-25)
- Set 1: North Florida went on a 3-0 run to take an 11-9 lead in the first set … Amy Burkhardt paced UNF with three early kills … another 3-0 run put North Florida up on BC, 15-13, at the media timeout … BC went on a 5-0 run to break a 19-19 tie as the Eagles took the first set.
- Set 2: North Florida started off strong, taking a 4-1 lead … Boston College created an 11-6 lead with a 5-0 run … BC stayed ahead the rest of the way.
- Set 3: BC went on a 5-0 run despite UNF's early 12-7 lead … UNF found a rhythm late, going on a 4-0 run to cut the deficit to 19-18, forcing BC into a timeout … UNF closed the set on a 6-1 run, while Sopata hit .600 with 12 kills and no errors prior to the end of the third, giving UNF a 25-22 win.
- Set 4: Attack errors loomed in the fourth frame as BC held on in four frames.
