Previous Coaching Stops at Florida State & Alabama
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Ethan Meydrich makes his way to the First Coast as an assistant coach for the North Florida cross country and track & field coaching staff, as announced by head coach Jeff Pigg on Wednesday afternoon.
"Ethan [Meydrich] is a great fit for our staff here at UNF. Ethan has worked with a couple great coaches Bob Braman at FSU and Will Palmer at Alabama, and both of them have him at high marks," said Pigg. "There is a lot to be done here with three full-time coaches and 65 students and I know he is ready for the challenge. He understands the culture and is ready to assist in helping us create great experiences for our teams."
Meydrich will serve on both the cross country and track teams and will work exclusively with middle distance and distance runners. He was an assistant coach for Florida State cross country and track & field before his move to Jacksonville, as well as a volunteer assistant coach while finishing up school at Alabama.
"I am grateful for the opportunity to join Coach Pigg and his staff at UNF," said Meydrich. "Coach Pigg's ability to develop middle and long-distance runners to the highest level has always impressed me. I can't wait to be a part of the Osprey family and help the program reach new heights."
During his two years in Tallahassee, Meydrich saw the FSU men's team qualify for the 2023 NCAA XC Championships, as well as four distance athletes qualify individually for the 2024 NCAA East First Round meet. The Seminoles' top distance runner, David Mullarkey, qualified for the 5000m race in the NCAA Outdoor Championship twice, and also set the program 3000m indoor record (7:42.89) while qualifying for the 2024 NCAA Indoor Championship.
In 2022, Meydrich served as a volunteer assistant coach with Alabama, where he helped the women's cross country team to an SEC Conference Championship title. He also assisted four All-Americans with a third-place finish at the NCAA XC Championship.
Just one year earlier, Meydrich started his coaching career at Northridge High School as an assistant coach from 2021-22. He helped develop athletes at a high level, with school records broken with XC, 1600m and 3200m on both the boys and girls teams.
Meydrich graduated in the spring of 2022 from the University of Alabama with a bachelor's degree in kinesiology.
