JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - North Florida beach volleyball head coach Doug Wright is excited to announce the promotion of Madilyn McCarty to assistant coach ahead of the 2025 season.
For the past three years, McCarty served as a volunteer assistant coach, helping lead the team to its sixth ASUN Championship this past season and its first-ever trip to the NCAA Tournament. Â
"Coach Mads has been an integral part of the staff for the last three seasons", head coach Doug Wright said "Any success we celebrated was partly due to her hard work as a volunteer for this team. Her coaching values and philosophy align perfectly with what we are about at UNF. She is a great teacher of the game but more importantly, she cares deeply for the student-athletes as people. Hiring her full-time is a great win for our program and a huge benefit for our student-athletes. I am excited to watch her grow in this role and continue to impact lives."
The 2024 Ospreys became the first team in program and conference history to sweep the entirety of the ASUN Championship Tournament without conceding a single match point under the leadership of Wright and McCarty.Â
"It's hard to describe everything that this program means to me", said McCarty. "This is a role that I have been praying for and working towards for a couple of years now. Every sacrifice put forward to work and compete with this team and staff is worth it. I fully believe in Doug's leadership and his vision for this program and I am eager to continue to learn from his direction."
The Springfield, Ill., native was one of the top performers on the indoor and beach programs during her time at North Florida. On the indoor side, McCarty totaled 2,291 assists, 226 kills, 576 digs and 146 blocks, playing as one of the most versatile setters in the ASUN. McCarty finished her UNF career seventh all-time in assists and fourth in the UNF DI-era.
On the beach side, McCarty won 44 matches, including two seasons with 21 wins apiece. In 2019 she was a Second Team All-ASUN selection alongside Nicole DeBolt. McCarty ranks 13th in total victories.Â
"I know every coach says this, but this truly is a special group," McCarty said. "Their love for the game and for each other is motivating and I can't wait to get to grow alongside them. I'm so excited for this next step! It has been an honor to walk alongside this team the past couple years, and I am looking forward to being able to dedicate my full attention to growing and learning together!"
McCarty earned both her bachelor's and master's degree from North Florida.
