Ospreys Set to Play Eight Home Games For Second Straight Season
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - North Florida men's soccer officially announces the full fall schedule for the 2024 season with 16 matches, including eight at home, as announced by first-year head coach Jamie Davies and his staff on Monday afternoon.
The Ospreys will host eight games at Hodges Stadium for the second consecutive season, as well as for the second time since 2012, to start the Davies era. The slate is highlighted by four straight games at home in non-conference play after opening the regular season with back-to-back matches on the road against Power Five schools.
"I am excited for our schedule this year and to experience conference play in the ASUN," said Davies. "The opening weekend will be a great test to see where we are at as a program and we look forward to those challenges. We can't wait to get started!"
After a pair of home friendlies on Saturday, Aug. 10, and Friday, Aug. 16, the two P5 squads UNF will face are set to be Virginia Tech and South Carolina on the road. Winthrop, Mercer, UAB and Georgia Southern will be the next four games at Hodges Stadium.
Three of the first four ASUN matches for the Ospreys will be played on the road as well, on top of a midweek non-conference matchup against College of Charleston. UNF will end up hosting three of its seven conference matchups highlighted by Jacksonville in the River City Rumble on Saturday, Sept. 28 and Central Arkansas for senior night on Saturday, Nov. 2.
All games will be played in the late evening with start times between 6 p.m. & 7:30 p.m., outside of its second game of the season at South Carolina scheduled for 3 p.m. It will also be the second straight year that UNF will play a P5 opponent after facing NC State last season.
Non-Conference Schedule
The regular season for North Florida men's soccer begins with a mini-road trip against a pair of Power Five opponents starting with Virginia Tech on Thursday, Aug. 22, followed by South Carolina on Sunday, Aug. 25. It will be the first time since 2021 that they will open its first two matches of the season on the road.
After the road matchups, the Ospreys will start its home slate with four consecutive games at Hodges Stadium spanning from Aug. 29 to Sept. 9 to continue play on the non-conference schedule. It will be the first time that UNF will have a stretch of four straight home games since opening the season in 2012.
The non-conference slate continues with a in-state road trip down to Boca Raton, Fla., to face FAU on Friday, Sept. 13, to go along with its final non-conference home match against former ASUN opponent, USC Upstate, on Tuesday, Sept. 17.
Through four games of conference play in the Atlantic Sun Conference, the Ospreys will take on its last non-conference opponent on the road against College of Charleston on Wednesday, Oct. 16. It will also be the third game of a three-game road stretch, which will be UNF's longest of the season.
ASUN Play
The Ospreys start ASUN Conference competition after eight matches of non-conference play starting off with an away matchup against Stetson on Saturday, Sept. 21. The following week, UNF will play hosts in the River City Rumble against Jacksonville on Saturday, Sept. 28, in its home conference debut.
UNF will stay in-state to start its three-match road trip with a date against FGCU on Saturday, Oct. 5, followed with away travels to Lipscomb on Saturday, Oct. 12, and a midweek non-conference game in Charleston to complete the trip.
After its road endeavors, they will finish out the regular season at Hodges Stadium for two of its last three matches, starting with Bellarmine on Saturday, Oct. 19. UNF will make the quick trip to Queens on Saturday, Oct. 26, before playing its last match on senior night against Central Arkansas on Saturday, Nov. 2.
