JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - North Florida baseball (18-18, 8-9 ASUN) went toe-to-toe throughout the second game of the River City Rumble and came out triumphant across town to even the series against Jacksonville (17-18, 11-6 ASUN), 9-8, in an 11-inning thriller on Saturday evening.
The Ospreys fell to an early 3-0 deficit in the second inning, but popped back up with a seven-run fourth to take its first lead of the series. JU responded in the bottom of the inning to make it a 7-4 game through four.
A pair of scores from the Dolphins later on in the seventh tied the game, followed by them taking the lead off an error in the eighth inning. Down to his last strike,
Tripp McKinlay pushed a single through the right side to drive in
Connor Moore to send the game into extras.
In the 11th inning,
Tyler Gerteisen singled to center to once again drive in Moore to regain the lead. With two runners on the base path and no outs,
Avery Love worked through the frame and recorded the save in the 9-8 win to tie the series in the crosstown rivalry.
