Softball Splits Final Two Games at River City Leadoff

Channell, Jackson Lead Ospreys To Victory Over Ball State to Clinch Winning Weekend

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - North Florida softball (3-1) split their Saturday doubleheader defeating Ball State (0-4), while dropping the finale against James Madison (4-0) on Saturday evening at UNF Softball Complex. UNF scored 10 runs in an impressive offensive showing against the Cardinals, but lost a pitcher's duel against the Dukes.


GAME 1 | UNF 10 , Ball State 5 

The Ospreys fell behind early, allowing three runs in two innings against Ball State. North Florida came back quickly, scoring one run in the second, five in the third, and four in the fourth. Ashley Connor won her first game of 2024, tossing three and two-thirds innings of two-run ball. Madisyn Federico and Savannah Channell both hit their first home run of the season, and Logan Jackson added three more RBIs to her total.

Behind the Line Score
  • McKayla Timmons opened the scoring with a two-run home run in the top of the first.
  • Haley Wynn extended the Ball State lead with a solo home run in the second.
  • North Florida cut into the deficit with a sac-fly from Logan Jackson in the bottom half of the second.
  • Madisyn Federico launched a solo home run off the left field foul pole to make it a one-run game in the third.
  • UNF would add two more runs in the inning on a Logan Jackson single.
  • The Ospreys would make it a three-run game, thanks to a Savannah Channell two-run home run.

GAME 2 | UNF 2, JMU 3

North Florida dropped their final game of the River City Leadoff against James Madison, giving the Ospreys their first loss of the season. UNF's offense was quieted after scoring ten runs in the first game of the day. JMU scored three runs early, which was enough for the Dukes to secure the victory.

Shannon Glover kept UNF in the game, when she drove in a run in the fifth. She would come around and score after she stole home on a double steal. North Florida closes the River City Leadoff with three wins and one loss.
