Ospreys Battle Out 1-1 Draw at Mercer

Barrentine Makes Career High-Six Saves, Fugel Tallies First Goal

MACON, Ga. - North Florida women's soccer took a 1-0 lead in the 12th minute courtesy of Brooklyn Fugel's first goal at UNF, although Mercer managed to get one tally in the second session as the Ospreys (1-2-2) and Bears (3-0-3) played to a hard-fought draw Sunday, Sept. 3. Keeper Sarah Barrentine made six stops minding the net, setting a career high. 

Mercer entered the match not having lost at home since Oct. 22, 2021, just one day off UNF's own home undefeated streak.

  • First Half: The Ospreys piled on the pressure early, putting up four shots within five minutes … in the 12th minute, Paige McSwigan found Fugel who slotted it in the back of the net to give UNF an early advantage …. Barrentine made a stop in the 21st minute to maintain the Ospreys lead … UNF outshot Mercer 6-2 in the first half.
  • Second Half: The Bears were able to get some footing early, putting up good chances … Mercer notched six shots while Barrentine made three saves in the opening minutes of the second period … Mercer finally pushed through in 54th minute when Larkin Thomason converted a goal after a double assist … UNF's best chances at a winner came in the ensuing minutes as the ball stayed on Mercer's half of the field … both sides exchanged chances for the final 20 minutes with either side unable break the tie … 18 of the game's 25 shots were put up in the second half.
