RALEIGH, N.C. - A defensive battle didn't fall in favor of North Florida men's soccer (2-3-3), as a late score on a penalty kick in the 87th minute resulted in a 1-0 loss to NC State (5-3) on Wednesday evening.
The Ospreys played tough in a game that only saw eight shots combined between the two teams. UNF had chances on the offensive side of the ball, but a costly mistake in the final minutes of the game pushed the Wolfpack ahead in the midweek non-conference match.
GOALS

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Micah Gun made an incredible one-on-one save to prevent the Wolfpack from cashing in early on.
- UNF only allowed one shot afterwards in the first half to head into the half scoreless on the road.
- Coming out of the half, Nick Kishchenko gets a good look on a header, but the keeper made a great save to force a corner kick.
- Joaquin Acuna got a good look inside the box in the 65 minute, but the shot hit right post to keep the defensive stalemate going.
- A shot on goal was attempted by Felix Frenz, but it was saved by the Wolfpack with just over 10 minutes left of playing time.
- A foul in the box by Frenz set up a penalty kick score for NC State, which pushed the Wolfpack to a 1-0 lead in the 87th minute.
- Back-and-forth play in the final three minutes was all that was left in the 1-0 win for NC State.

FROM THE MOUTH OF MARINATOS
"Other than the first 5-10 minutes of the game, we came out and created our own chances. I thought we were fantastic in the second half, as we took to the post to almost go up 1-0. I also thought our boys outplayed them in the second half and created the more quality chances in the game when Joaquin [Acuna] hit the post. Proud of our guys battle.
We were able to see some players tonight. I thought our subs were good, as well as a lot of our starters. I also thought we were unlucky. It was a tough call inside five minutes to go. I don't think it was a penalty kick and I think the film will show that. It was a tough way to end the game, but I'm proud of our guys, even though we lost the game. For me, 0-0 would've been a fair result. With four minutes left, it was tough to get that call.
Our guys know that we outplayed them for stretched in the second half, which we can take going into the JU game and build on. So we went on the road in a tough environment at an ACC school and showed that not only can we compete with them, but we could have gotten a result."
