Former UNF Southpaw Picked Up By American Association Squad
SIOUX CITY, Iowa - Former UNF southpaw Austin Drury was signed by the American Association's Sioux City Explorers at the Independent Ball level as announced by the professional league Wednesday, May 3.
The hard-throwing lefty logged three years in the Navy and Gray, putting up some strong numbers for the Ospreys. Ironically, Drury tallied the same record at the collegiate level as he did at the minor league level, going 16-7 across both with some strong punchout numbers.
Drury was drafted by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the 34th round of the 2018 MLB Draft, tallying a 3.35 ERA,115 games, six saves, 198.2 innings and 199 strikeouts. The Land O'Lakes, Fla., native was a Midwest League All-Star with the Great Lakes Loons and reached as high as Double-A Tulsa last year.
While at UNF, Drury was a Collegiate Baseball Freshman All-American, finishing his career tied for second in the program's DI era in wins with 16. He was 16-7 with a 3.94 ERA, one complete game, 214.2 innings, 167 strikeouts and 40 appearances in Jacksonville.
Sioux City begins its season May 12 following a week of spring training games.
