JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- North Florida head women's soccer coach Eric Faulconer announced the addition of transfer Sophia Goetz to the 2023 roster. The 5-6 forward from Davie, Fla., joins North Florida after redshirting at Memphis last year.
Goetz was a highly-touted goal scorer from Archbishop McCarthy High School in Fort Lauderdale where she was named the 2022 Florida State High School Player of the Year by the United Soccer Coaches organization. In addition, she earned high school United Soccer Coaches All-American honors that same season.Â
Goetz helped lead Archbishop McCarthy to three regionals, one state runner-up and one state championship during her career. She was named to the Miami Herald and Sun Sentinel All-County first team multiple seasons. On the club side, Goetz played with FC Prime ECNL and in the US Soccer Development Academy for Weston FC where she was consistently a top goal scorer on her team.
"Sophia was someone we were heavily involved with in her original recruiting process and built a great relationship with during this time," stated head coach Eric Faulconer "So, we are obviously thrilled to have her return to her home state of Florida and join our program as a transfer. Sophia has an excellent combination of strength and pace. She has the ability to hold up play as a true center forward. With that said, she also makes very good powerful runs off the ball and is a constant threat to get in behind a backline as well. She is quite comfortable playing as the 10 or out wide if needed and is an excellent finisher and has very solid overall technical ability. Sophia is very competitive and has the mentality you are looking for as a goal scorer, making her a very talented box finisher. We are excited that Sophia is now officially an Osprey and feel strongly that she will help us put the ball in the net during the course of her career at UNF."
