Women’s Tennis Secures Back-to-Back Sweeps

Ospreys Defeat North Alabama, 7-0

JACKSONVILLE, Ala. - UNF women's tennis (13-6, 5-1 ASUN) earned a 7-0 victory over North Alabama (7-13, 2-5 ASUN) Saturday afternoon, giving the Ospreys their second sweep in two days. UNF is now on a five-match winning streak in conference play. 

The Ospreys picked up where they left off yesterday in doubles play as Kit Gulihur and Ana Paula Melilo won, 6-2, at the top position. Kendall Nash and Isabel Oliveira took a 6-2 win as well while the third court was left unfinished. 

In singles play, the momentum continued as Nash earned a 6-0, 6-1 win to give UNF a 2-0 lead. Melilo strengthened the lead for the Ospreys with a 6-1, 6-2 win in the fourth position. Gulihur clinched the win for UNF with an astonishing 6-0, 6-0 victory in the top seed. North Florida's dominance did not stop there, as Annabelle Davis earned a win in two sets to give the Ospreys a 5-0 lead. With Oliveira and Jasmin Makela earning wins on both of their respective courts to finish the match, the Ospreys return back to Jacksonville with a 7-0 sweep over the Lions. 

North Florida is back in action Thursday, April 6 at 10 a.m. against Eastern Kentucky at the UNF Tennis Complex before facing Bellarmine the following day to wrap up the regular season.

"Proud of the way we competed this weekend as a team. We came out very focused in both matches. Road trips can be tough and we took care of business. This has been a fun trip together and we keep growing and getting better everyday."
