DELAND, Fla. - UNF men's tennis (8-4, 1-0) started off conference play with a 4-3 victory over Stetson (10-5, 0-1) Friday evening, getting wins at singles slots one through three as well as at doubles.
The Ospreys got off to a positive start as
Jonas Hartenstein and
Rodrigo Crespo defeated their opponents, 6-1, in doubles competition. Shortly after,
Matt Carroll and
Bruno Vietri earned a 6-3 victory to clinch the doubles point for UNF. The third court was left unfinished, 3-4.
UNF continued its drive into singles play as Crespo secured a 6-2, 6-4 victory in the second position. With a 2-0 lead, the Hatters tried to come back as they took a point on the fourth court. However, Hartenstein earned a point in the top slot to give the Ospreys a 3-1 lead. Carroll clinched the win for UNF with a two-set victory at the third position. Although Stetson took the two remaining courts, the Ospreys are returning to Jacksonville with the 4-3 win to make them 1-0 in conference play.
The Ospreys look to earn their second conference win of the year as they host Austin Peay at 1 p.m. Sunday, March 19 at the UNF Tennis Complex.
