Softball Sweeps Saturday at UNF Invitational

Ospreys Extend Winning Streak to Six Games

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - North Florida softball (15-6) extended its winning streak to six-straight games with another pair of wins against Northern Kentucky (4-15) and Army (6-16) on the second day of the UNF Invitational on Saturday evening at the UNF Softball Complex.

After facing an early 1-0 deficit, the Ospreys outscored NKU 7-1 through the next six innings before emerging with a 7-5 victory. UNF came back for a late-night second game against Army and played great defense to earn its second-consecutive tournament-day sweep with a 6-2 win.

Ashley Connor had a terrific showing in both games with a combined 7.1 innings pitched, nine strikeouts and three runs allowed on 122 total pitches for both a win and a save. Abi Annett was the hottest bat on the second day of play in the tournament with four hits and five RBIs combined, including her second solo homer of the weekend.


GAME 1 | UNF 7, NKU 5

Six strikeouts from Connor and a solo shot from Annett down the left field line gave UNF enough cushion to close out a rematch against NKU with a 7-5 win.

Behind the Line Score
  • NKU got on the board first in the opening inning with an RBI single sending in a runner for the score.
  • Annett hit an RBI-double with the bases loaded at the bottom of the first to add three runs to the board for the Ospreys.
  • The Norse added another run with a single up the middle to make it a one-run game.
  • UNF exploded for scores again in the second with RBI-doubles to the wall for both Shannon Glover and Chloe Culp.
  • Connor shut down a pair to get to five total strikeouts in three innings pitched.
  • Ashley Kirkbride made a terrific diving catch at second base to prevent any batters from getting on base in the fourth.
  • Culp sent Glover home after she hit a leadoff triple, followed by solo shot from Annett to go up by five runs.
  • Regan Hermeling made a diving highlight catch in center field to keep NKU at bay in the fifth.
  • An NKU runner advances to third in the sixth, but Skyler Stockie forces a pop-up to strand her on base.
  • After surrendering three runs to start the seventh, Connor came back in the game to secure the final three outs in the win.

Izzy Kelly notched her eighth win of the season with three strikeouts in the circle to hold the Black Knights to a pair of runs in the 6-2 night-cap victory.

Behind the Line Score
  • Kelly put two Army runners on the base path, but left them stranded in the first inning.
  • Glover added an RBI to her weekend total with an RBI-double that sent Logan Jackson home from first.
  • Annett was the one to send Glover home to make it a 2-0 ballgame in the bottom of the first.
  • Kelly came back in the second and struck out two of three to maintain a two-run lead.
  • Army responded in the third with a two-run home run to tie the game at two a piece.
  • Jackson gave UNF the lead back after a single up the middle brought in a pair of runs to make it 4-2.

  • Annett had multiple hits in both games, while Glover, Culp and Jackson all had one multi-hit game on Saturday.

  • Jackson continued her on-base streak of 22 straight games dating back to last season with a base hit in both games.
  • Kayla Harper missed her first start of the year leaving only Glover, Culp and Jackson as the only three to start all games in 2023.
