GREENWOOD, Ind. - North Florida men's basketball's Jose Placer and Carter Hendricksen were named to the 2022-23 College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District Division I Men's Basketball Team as made public by the CSC organization Tuesday, Feb. 21.
The all-district team named by the CSC, formerly known as the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) recognizes the top student-athletes in the nation for their performance on the court and in the classroom.
UNF was one of eight schools in the league to have at least one honoree on the team. Hendricksen was named to the then CoSIDA All-District squad a year ago.
Both Placer and Hendricksen were tabbed as ASUN Preseason All-Conference honorees, making UNF just one of two teams to have multiple honorees on the preseason squad.
"Carter Hendricksen and Jose Placer will go down as two of the greatest players to ever don a UNF uniform because of what they have done on and off the court," head coach Matthew Driscoll said.Â
Carter Hendricksen | Senior (Fifth Year) | Forward/Guard | Mt. Sterling, Ky. | 4.0 GPA Sport Management Certificate
Hendricksen's lauded career continued this season as the 6-7 wing is averaging a career-best 16.7 points per game, starting all 28 of UNF's games. The senior knocked off a myriad of milestones this year, becoming the fifth Osprey to surpass 1,500-career points while also becoming just the fourth in program history to reach at least 1,000 points, 500 boards and 200 assists.Â
"Carter attacked his last year with tremendous preparation, both physically and mentally, which has paid huge dividends in his most efficient season statistically," head coach Matthew Driscoll said. "Carter will always be remembered for how he competed and fought every night, yet how he treated people and served is even greater."
Hendricksen currently ranks second in program history for career points, breaking the 20-point scoring marker seven times this season as well as the 30-point marker three times in less than 10 days.Â
His production extends far past scoring output as the Mt. Sterling, Ky., native has brought down 6.3 boards per contest and 585 for his UNF career.Â
Jose Placer | Redshirt-Junior | Guard | Orlando, Fla. | 3.8 GPA MS Management
Placer picks up his first CSC All-District honor after joining Hendricksen on the ASUN All-Academic Team a year ago.Â
The dangerous scorer surpassed 1,000-collegiate points and 1,000-career points in a UNF uniform this season. Placer has drilled 50 three-points in league play alone this year, reaching double-digit points in all but three games during ASUN competition.Â
His prolific scoring abilities have lifted UNF to three huge league wins this year. Jan. 5 he unloaded for 10 three-pointers, including a long-range game-winner to knock off first place Kennesaw State. He followed that up with a 30-point game in front of a rival crowd and team in JU Feb. 2. His latest 30-plus point output game came in a 32-point effort in a 114-111 win against Lipscomb Feb. 16.Â
"Jose has seen more ebbs and flows than probably any player that has produced what he has on a nightly basis throughout his career," head coach Matthew Driscoll said. "Sometimes we take for granted how we have never missed a beat from that guard position over the last 10 years. Jose continues to work on developing his game every year, making him not just one of the deadliest guards in the ASUN but college basketball. Jose, like Carter, has made a tremendous impact on and off campus throughout our community, while always wanting to be the difference in someone's life, even it's just with a smile."
Placer is shooting 37.5 percent from beyond the arc while also dishing out 2.7 assists per game in 28 games this season.
