JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - North Florida men's soccer closes out its non-conference slate with a midweek matchup against Mercer on Tuesday, Oct. 24, with kickoff set for 4 p.m., in Macon, Ga.
WHAT TO KNOW
- The Ospreys have a 2-2-3 record in non-conference games this season, as they look for their second road win.
- Joaquin Acuna set a season-high against Queens (N.C.) for shots on goal in a game with three attempts.
- Acuna and Luc Granitur are now tied for the most shots on goal for the team with 12 total.
- Chema Preciado has extended his team lead in saves with 27 total in nine starts.
- Preciado also has put together back-to-back games with at least four saves, as well as his third time this season with at least four total.
- Herbie Steigelman has started in all 13 games this year, as he has been on the pitch for all 90 minutes in 12 of the 13 games.
- UNF played against Mercer during the spring season in an exhibition game.
SCOUTING THE OPPONENT
Mercer has totaled a 5-3-7 overall record with a 1-1-2 record in SoCon play. They also have a 2-1-2 mark in home games this year and have currently played to draws in each of their past three games.
Barzee Blama has been one of the top goal scorers that UNF has seen this season with seven goals off 14 shots on goal. The Bears have four other players with multiple goals to their names, including Carlos Santamaria and Omar Hernandez with three each. Nick Wanzer joins Santamaria and Hernandez as players with at least two goals and two assists.
Trevor McMullen has been fantastic in front of the net with 45 total saves in 14 starts. He has held opponents to five total shutouts this season and a 0.76 goals against average, as the team ranks top 50 in the nation for GAA.
SERIES HISTORY
- UNF is 7-8-2 all-time against Mercer with a 2-5-1 record against the Bears on the road.
- This is the sixth consecutive time the Ospreys will play against Mercer with a 2-2-1 record in that span.
- It will be back-to-back seasons playing the Bears on the road with last season's result being a 2-2 draw.
