Women's Basketball Takes Home First ASUN Win Over Queens, 79-62

Four Ospreys Score Double-Digit Points

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - After having four players score 13 or more points, North Florida women's basketball (4-8, 1-1 ASUN) brought home its first conference win of the season against Queens (5-8, 0-2 ASUN), 79-62, in their first-ever ASUN meeting on Thursday evening.

In their fourth consecutive road game, the Ospreys showed dominance in almost every facet of their game after holding the lead for over 36 minutes. They also outrebounded the Royals, 55-40, while also hitting 71% of free throws compared to 52% from Queens.

Senior Emma Broermann and graduate Elysa Wesolek lead the way with their experience, as each of them scored 16 points in Charlotte. Kaila Rougier and Lyric Swann joined them in double figures with 15 and 13 points respectively in 67 total combined minutes played between the two of them.

Freshmen guards Helena Rafnsdottir and Sarah Taub have been big on the boards in their past two games, combining for 34 rebounds against Stetson and Queens in their first taste of ASUN play. Taub also crushed her previous best mark of seven rebounds after bringing down 12 boards in a career-high 32 minutes played.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

First Half: The Ospreys got the early jump on Queens when Rougier threw a long pass down the court to catch Wesolek in stride for a layup...L. Swann made a deep jumper to give all five starting Ospreys a pair of points entering the first media timeout...Taub expanded on the UNF lead with a steal and score on a loose ball...Broermann scored a couple buckets in the second quarter, including another long pass from L. Swann that moved their lead to double-digits...a few more jumpers gave the Ospreys a 40-26 lead heading into the halftime break.

Second Half: Rougier came out of the break on fire with back-to-back threes to give the Ospreys confidence to start the third period of play...another bucket was scored by Rougier on a dish pass from Taub that put the Ospreys up by 27 points...Broermann found herself in the paint again with another layup going through the net to bump up her scoring total...L. Swann made her first three-pointer on the night to cap off UNF's first ASUN win of the season, 79-62.

  • Rougier had a career night surpassing or matching highs for points (15), minutes (34), field goals made (5), threes made (2) and steals (3).
