Women's Basketball Unable to Overcome Early Deficit at Eastern Kentucky

Lyric Swann Paced Ospreys with 10 Points

RICHMOND, Ky. - After facing a large deficit early in the first period, North Florida women's basketball (5-12, 2-5 ASUN) wasn't able to find the spark it needed on offense, as the Ospreys fell to Eastern Kentucky (11-8, 4-2 ASUN), 71-41, on Saturday afternoon.

Lyric Swann made her return well known with 10 points scored off the bench against EKU, which was the 12th time in 14 appearances she's put up double digits. Kaila Rougier and Sarah Taub also played well on both sides of the ball, as the duo combined for 14 points and 15 rebounds.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

First Half: Elysa Wesolek earned the win on the tip, while also scoring the first points of the game with a spin-move drive to the bucket...L. Swann drained a three-pointer to stop a scoring run for EKU in her first game back since playing against Queens on Jan. 5...Rougier closed the quarter with a jumper to cut the deficit to 13 points...L. Swann returned early in the second with a layup that touched off the glass and in...Rougier made a her first trey of the day halfway through the second and hit nothing but net...Taub nailed a jumper with just under three minutes left in what was the last score from both sides headed to the locker room with a 35-17 score.

Second Half: Rougier had the first made field goal for the Ospreys to start the second half with a three-pointer assisted from L. Swann...UNF continued an 8-5 run in the third with a layup made from Taub...a three from Maddie Millar and a layup by Emma Broermann took the Ospreys into the fourth...after a few free throws to start the fourth, Jaelyn Swann hit her first three of the day, followed by a layup from Selma Eklund on a put-back shot...L. Swann reached double figures on a made three with under two minutes left, but it wasn't enough in their second road game in three days.

  • L. Swann recorded her 12th double-digit scoring game of the season and third consecutive in games played.
  • Both Swann sisters shot a season-high three-point attempts with 19 combined attempts from range.
  • Rougier has brought down seven or more boards in five of the past five games.
  • She also made multiple three-pointers for the third time on the year.
  • Taub topped her high in playing time with 33 minutes, while also shooting a career-most 11 attempts from the field.
  • Ospreys had the hefty margin in bench points, 18-9, as well as the advantage in second chance points, 9-7.
  • Fourth consecutive game using same lineup, with the Swann sisters returning from injury on Saturday.
  • L. Swann came off the bench for the first time this season after missing the previous three games.
