
Men's Soccer Drops Home Opener to Georgia State

Game Played at Turf Field on UNF Campus
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - North Florida men's soccer (0-1) put together great defensive stands in the first half, but a costly mistake late in the game led to Georgia State (1-0) stealing the win on Friday, August 26.
In the 64th minute, the Panthers stole the ball at midfield and took it the distance to beat the keeper for the only goal of the game. The Ospreys had plenty of opportunities to respond with nine total shots, but only one of them landed on goal.

The Ospreys hit the road for their first away game of the season when they take on UCF Monday, Aug. 29, at 7 pm.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Padraic Gilley was put into the fire early, as he recorded a save within the first two minutes of the match on a breakaway play from the Panthers.
- The Ospreys had their best chance to score in the 19th minute, when four shots were taken inside the box, but none of them saw the back of the net.
- Ale Rodriguez Lopez was set up well by Bryson Smith on the cross in the 53rd minute, but his airborne shot went just right of the post.
- The UNF defense held firm to start the second half, but a mistake at midfield led to Georgia State taking advantage for the 1-0 lead.
- Bendeguz Burka had another good chance for an equalizer goal set up by a poor pass from GSU, but the shot went high over the crossbar in the 77th minute.

- Six new Ospreys started the season-opening game, as the other five starters were all seniors.
- Four saves in the first half from Gilley is the most by an Osprey goalkeeper in a single half since last season, when Gilley had seven in the second half against Stetson on Oct. 16, 2021.
- Last season against Stetson was also the last time UNF used 18 or more players throughout a game.
- Six total yellow cards combined between both teams is the most in a UNF game since playing JU on Sept. 25, 2021.
