JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - After just 96 pitches and one hour and 57 minutes, UNF baseball's lefty pitcher
Peter Holden secured a two-hit complete game shutout in a 3-0 victory against one of the best hitting teams in the region in Kennesaw State (25-17, 13-6 ASUN) Friday, April 29 from Harmon Stadium.
The southpaw befuddled a KSU team that came into Friday's game hitting .301, leading the ASUN. Holden induced 14 groundouts, nine outs in the air, fanned three and permitted just two singles, two walks and a pair of hit batters.
KSU mustered 28 at-bats, with Holden recording 27 outs over the 33 batters that he faced in the series opener against the ASUN leading Owls who entered at number 24 in the latest NCAA RPI rankings.
Not lost on the night was
Isaiah Byars' two-run home run and some stellar defensive play by
Brock Edge and
Aidan Sweatt in crucial moments.
Holden's nine-inning complete game shutout was the first such effort by a UNF pitcher since Evan Incinelli pulled one off against Kennesaw State May 20, 2015 in ASUN postseason play. It was the first nine-inning complete game start by an Osprey since righty Nick Marchese dealt one in a 5-2 win against NJIT April 13, 2019.

Behind the Line Score
- UNF (17-25, 7-12 ASUN) manufactured the first run of the game for a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second. Cade Westbrook reached on a leadoff infield single against the shift. Aidan Sweatt bunted him over and Trey Spratling-Williams lined out to right to move Westbrook to third. Down 0-2, Dallen Leach fought back to get even in the count before singling to left field, scoring Westbrook.
- In one of the biggest junctures of the game, lefty Peter Holden wiggled out of a jam in the top of the seventh. With two on, none out, Brock Edge made a diving catch on a liner to left. One batter later, Sweatt snagged a line drive and doubled up the runner at second.
- Holden escaped out of another jam in the eighth, stranding a pair.
- With a runner on and a 2-2 count at the plate, Isaiah Byars opened up the game with a monstrous two-run home run over the video board in the left field, giving UNF a 3-0 lead.
- One KSU batter walked in the ninth, but Holden closed the door with a backwards K, securing the shutout.
