Homers Haunt Ospreys at FGCU

FORT MYERS, Fla. - North Florida cut a 3-0 deficit to just one in the seventh, but FGCU replied with a pair of three-run home runs as the Ospreys dropped game one of a three-game set at Florida Gulf Coast, 9-2, Thursday, April 14.

Game two set for Friday is moved up to 1 p.m. from the originally scheduled time of 6:30 p.m. The time change is due to expected inclement weather.

Behind the Line Score
  • FGCU's Joe Kinker took an 0-2 pitch over the fence in right for a 1-0 FGCU lead after the first.
  • UNF (13-22, 4-9 ASUN) notched leadoff singles in the first and second but had nothing to show for it.
  • The Eagles (22-12, 8-5 ASUN) went up 3-0 thanks to two singles, a wild pitch, RBI groundout and sac fly in the third.
  • UNF got within 3-2 in the seventh, scoring a pair. Abraham Sequera laced a single to left, Cade Westbrook roped a single to right and Aidan Sweatt put down a beautiful bunt single. 
  • After a strikeout, a fielding error on a dribbler allowed Sequera to score. Tyler Gerteisen plated Westbrook with a sac fly.
  • A single and double were followed by a three-run home run by Harrison Povey, giving FGCU a 6-2 lead in the seventh.
  • UNF threatened in the eighth, loading the bags with two outs, but FGCU reliever Darien Smith got an inning-ending groundout.
  • Kinker came through for FGCU again, hitting a three-run home run to right center for added insurance in the eighth.
