Baseball Rains Hits in 12-6 Win Against Butler in Wild Midweek Game

Every UNF Starter Notches at Least One Hit Tuesday

North Florida's biggest blow came in the seventh inning, scoring six runs on six hits, one error and a walk. UNF broke open a 12-6 lead with that effort and relievers Justin Parrish and Rafael Santos closed the door with 3.2 scoreless out of the pen.

Behind the Line Score
  • UNF's scoring ways from Sunday continued into the bottom of the first. Isaiah Byars singled back up the middle and stole second. Cade Westbrook walked and a wild pitch moved both up 90 feet. Abraham Sequera scored Byars with a sac fly to left center, giving UNF a 1-0 lead. Brock Edge reached on an infield single that led into a throwing error from Butler's third baseman on the play, scoring Westbrook while moving Edge to third base. Grant Grodi chopped a single through the right side, plating another.
  • Byars started the second with a single through the left side, moved to second on a passed ball and scored on Westbrook's single through the left side.
  • Butler cut its deficit in half in the third. A walk, two singles a stolen base and throwing error on the stolen base attempt allowed Butler to score two.
  • Butler took the lead, 5-4, in the fifth thanks to a two-RBI triple with two outs, scoring a pair of Butler runners who reached on a walk and a throwing error.
  • A wild play ensued in the fifth, permitting Butler to take a 5-4 lead. A line drive off pitcher Tony Roca's hip bounced to Isaiah Byars at second base. Byars' throw went wide and late, but first baseman Grant Grodi stopped the throw. Batter Billy Wurch reached first, but was tagged out as he rounded the bag and couldn't get back safely.
  • UNF jumped ahead 6-5 in the bottom of the sixth, scoring two with two outs. Justin Holmes singled, stole second and scored on Byars' single to right. Aidan Sweatt doubled in Byars for the lead.
  • Butler evened it 6-6 in the seventh. A hit by pitch, steal, errant throw on the stolen base and RBI groundout tied it.
  • UNF put up a six spot in the seventh. Some hard hit base knocks and perfectly placed hits allowed UNF to go up.  Abraham Sequera doubled to deep center and scored on Blake Pound's flare down the right field line. Grodi ripped a double down the right field line and Travis Stapleton's sky high pop fly landed on some green space down the left field line, scoring another. Byars drove in another with a sac fly and Westbrook tagged an RBI single.
  • Justin Parrish and Rafael Santos turned in 3.2 scoreless out of the pen.
