Softball Runs Away With Win Against Winthrop, 10-2

Erin Kyle Spins Second Complete Game of the Weekend, Ospreys Tally 11 Hits

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - North Florida scored runs in four of six innings, generated 11 hits as a team and Erin Kyle spun her second complete game of the weekend as the Ospreys (4-1) ran away with a 10-2 six-inning win against Winthrop (0-5) Sunday, Feb. 13. With the win, UNF has its best start through five games since the 2015 campaign.

The Ospreys had six different players record an RBI, with Hayley Bejarano and Hadlee Reichert both tallying their first two runs driven in at North Florida.

Kyle made quite an entrance into the North Florida rotation, spinning six innings of one-earned run ball while fanning six and walking just one batter.

Behind the Line Score
  • Paige Pfent roped an RBI double off the top of the right center wall, scoring Shannon Glover from second for a 1-0 UNF lead after the first inning.
  • Erin Kyle was in a groove early, retiring the first six batters she faced while fanning three.
  • Logan Jackson made the Eagles pay for a muffed throw at first as she drove a triple off the wall in right, driving in Abi Annett for a 2-0 lead in the second. It was Jackson's first-career triple.
  • Kyle continued her dominance, retiring Winthrop in order once again in the third inning.
  • Winthrop got one back in the fourth. A fielding error, stolen base, wild pitch and bloop single got the Eagles on base and on the board for the first time all afternoon.
  • The Ospreys batted around and put up a six-spot in the fifth. Kayla McGory doubled down the left field line, Shannon Glover roped a single through the left side and Pfent walked to load the bases with nobody out. Bejarano came through with a two-RBI single back up the box to drive in two. Gianna Niemeier notched her fourth pinch-hit RBI of the weekend with an RBI groundout. The Ospreys scored another after a fielding miscue at third allowed Bejarano to score. After a walk, Kayla Harper beat out an infield single, allowing Savannah Channell to score.
  • The Eagles got one back thanks to a walk and two singles in the sixth.
  • Hadlee Reichert turned a slick 5-4-3 double play to help UNF to get out of the jam in the sixth session.
  • Reichert turned defense into offense the next half inning when she cleared the bases to give UNF the win in six. With runners at first and second, Reichert clubbed a two-RBI triple into the right field corner. She would come around to score the 10th run after Winthrop's second baseman made an errant throw.
