Women’s Soccer Match Preview - ASUN Championship Quarterfinals at FGCU

Ospreys Face Second Seed Eagles Riding Five-Match Unbeaten Streak

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - North Florida women's soccer enters the quarterfinals of the ASUN Championship at second-seeded FGCU, bringing in a five-match unbeaten to Thursday night's showdown.

UNF has yet to permit a goal in five-straight matches, bringing in one of the best backlines in the league as the Ospreys aim to pick up a victory in their second match at FGCU this year.

The winner advances to take on the victor between third-seeded Lipscomb and sixth-seeded Central Arkansas. 

North Florida is 3-7-2 all-time in ASUN postseason play, looking to notch multiple wins in postseason play for the first time in UNF's DI history.

MATCH NOTES

Series History
UNF and FGCU are meeting for the 18th time and the second time this season … the last matchup on Sept. 22 resulted in a 3-1 win for the Eagles … FGCU holds the series lead over the Ospreys with 13 wins, three losses and one tie … this is the first time these two teams will meet in an ASUN postseason match since 2011.

North Florida women's soccer turned in its fifth-straight clean sheet (4-6-5, 3-3-4 ASUN) as the Ospreys clinched an ASUN Championship berth after a 0-0 draw against Bellarmine (1-7-9, 1-4-5 ASUN) Saturday, Oct. 22.

Scouting Report
FGCU enters the quarterfinal matchup as the second seed in the ASUN with 25 points  … FGCU vaulted itself into position to host postseason play after a regular season finale win  … the Eagles boasted a 10-5-1 overall record while going 8-1-1 in conference play  … FGCU sits 47th in the nation in shots per game tallying over 15 shots a game  … the Eagles are second in the conference in assists with 26 … head Coach Jim Blankenship looks to make his eighth ASUN Championship Game appearance with FGCU , winning the tournament most recently in 2017 … Louise Lillback has been the key player up top for the Eagles notching eight goals on the season beside 19 points and 57 shots taken  … Leah Scarpelli leads the team in assists with six on the year… goalkeeper Katie Sullivan has played more minutes than anyone else on the team while providing 61 saves on the year.

The Ospreys are in the midst of a five match unbeaten streak heading into the ASUN Championship … the streak started with a 1-0 win at Austin Peay on October 9 … UNF then returned to Hodges Stadium for a four match home stand to cap off the regular season … the Ospreys proceeded to play to four-straight 0-0 draws, a first in program history… UNF last conceded a goal to Lipscomb in a 3-0 defeat on October 6.

Shut Out Sofia
Keeper Sofia Miliancano is second in the entire country in goals against average … her fantastic play over the past month added up to that stellar stat, as well as her first-career ASUN Goalkeeper of the Week honor, earned Oct. 25.

ASUN Playoff Picture
UNF is the seventh seed out of the eight teams that made the playoffs … Liberty and FGCU finished as the top two seeds, who will host the quarterfinals and semifinals … the final will be played at the school with the highest seed going into the championship … with a victory, the Ospreys would face the winner of #3 Lipscomb and #6 Central Arkansas with the match taking place at FGCU … the semifinals are set for Sunday, October 30 at 2 p.m.
