JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - North Florida men's soccer prepares for its second match against a ranked opponent this season, as the Ospreys travel to face No. 12 Lipscomb on Saturday, Oct. 22, at 8 p.m. EST.
WHAT TO KNOW
- First time playing against a nationally ranked ASUN opponent since beating No. 11 FGCU on the road in 2016.
- The Ospreys have gone 2-0-3 in the past five games with their last loss suffered against Stetson on Sept. 17.
- UNF is also 1-2-2 in ASUN play, which puts them tied for sixth in the conference with Liberty with three ASUN matches left in the season.
- First time coming off back-to-back draws since tying against FGCU and Stetson through two overtime periods in spring 2021.
- Will aim for six-straight games without a loss for the first time since the final regular-season matches of the 2016 season.
- Braden Masker has emerged as the team's assist leader with two total on the year after dishing one out to Rio Onwumere against Bellarmine this past Saturday.
- Micah Gun remains undefeated in front of the net through five starts with his toughest battle approaching against the second-best shots per game team in the nation.
SCOUTING THE OPPONENT
No. 12 Lipscomb comes into this game with an ASUN-best 10-1-2 overall record, as well as an undefeated 5-0 record in conference play. Their lone loss came to No. 5 Kentucky on the road in a high-scoring affair that saw five total goals.
After the Kentucky loss, the Bison ripped off five straight wins, including four conference wins, scoring two goals or more in all five games. They also perform well on the defensive side of the ball, as they have six total shutouts on the season.
The Bison stand at the top of the conference for almost every offensive statistical category. They also rank top 10 in the nation for shots per game, shots on goal per game, assists per game, and points per game.
Jelldrik Dallmann has been star for Lipscomb on offense with 10 goals off 39 shots with two assists in 13 games played. The Bison have eight different goal scorers on the year with three of them having six or more goals.
Michael Sibley is the leader in front of the net with 28 saves off 101 shots faced and only 10 goals allowed in his 13 starts. In conference play, he has only allowed two goals in five starts with 12 saves as well.
SERIES HISTORY
- The Ospreys are 9-8-1 all-time against Lipscomb with a 4-4-1 record against the Bison on the road.
- UNF pulled off the upset last season with a 2-0 victory at home in what was their first ASUN win of the year.
- Bendeguz Burka scored one of the two goals, with Joaquin Acuna also having a shot on goal, in the fall 2021 matchup.
- A win on Saturday would be the the Ospreys' first road win at Lipscomb since the 2015 season.
