Walp’s Sizzling Sunday Propels Volleyball to Sweep of UNA

Ospreys Come Back Home 14-1 and 3-0 in ASUN Play

JACKSONVILLE, Ala. - Middle blocker Bre Walp was about as perfect as you can be offensively, hitting a UNF DI-era record .857 for a three-set match in a Sunday sweep of North Alabama Sept. 26.

With the win, North Florida continues its climb to a 14-1 mark and a perfect 3-0 start to conference play. The Ospreys are an ASUN win short of tying the program record for best start to a conference slate. North Florida started ASUN play 4-0 back in 2008.

Walp posted a season-high 12 kills, zero errors and 14 attack attempts on the day, breaking the previous UNF DI-era record for attack percentage in a three-set match with 10-14 attempts. Kari Weber's .909 clip, set Sept. 23, 1999 vs. Lander, is the all-time program record.

The Ospreys possess the best overall winning percentage in the conference and are tied for first in the ASUN East Division with FGCU.

UNF 3, UNA 0 (25-9, 25-19, 25-12)
Inside the Sets
  • Set 1: UNF tied its season-high mark for margin of victory for a set with a 25-9 win in frame one … the Ospreys did so against Davidson in set one of a sweep September 5 … the Navy and Gray started off with a 7-1 run, hitting .381 for the session while getting three kills from Dariana Hollingsworth-Santana and Bre Walp … the Lions were held to .034 hitting.
  • Set 2: Down 14-10, UNF took a timeout before turning in a 4-0 run to even the match up thanks to a Walp and Solimar Cestero block, two UNA ball-handling errors and a UNA attack error … the Ospreys won 10 of the last 14 points to secure the session … there were eight tie scores and six lead changes in the second set, the most for the match.
  • Set 3: A UNF 10-1 run is all you need to know about the third set as the Ospreys raced away with it to conclude the match in only an hour and 11 minutes … Hollingsworth-Santana had six kills in the frame … North Florida hit .407.
