Game Recap: Softball |

Ospreys Run-Rule FGCU, Fall in Game 2

JACKSONVILLE - It was two very different offenses for North Florida softball as the Ospreys grabbed an 11-3 win in six innings to open the series before falling, 3-0, in the second game Friday at the UNF Softball Complex.

Game 1
Pitchers of Record

Win | Halle Arends (9-4)
Loss | Sarah Lawton (6-3)

How it Happened
  • FGCU scored first on a ground out RBI and then North Florida answered with Shannon Glover's RBI to score Taylor Engman. Engman led off the game with a hit and stole second.
  • In the third, Glover hit an RBI single to bring Kayla McGory who reached on a double. Glover came around to score on Rebecca Koskey's triple to right field before she scored on Logan Jackson's hit to right field for the 4-1 advantage.
  • The Eagles erased the three-run lead with a pair of runs on Reedy Davenports double in the fifth.
  • Koskey came up with her second extra-base hit in the Ospreys side of the fifth to score McGory and Ashley Goeberl who each reached on singles. Coming in to pinch hit, Regan Hermeling hit a deep single to second base and beat the throw to allow Koskey to score for a 7-3 lead.
  • In the sixth, FGCU looked to create trouble with back-to-back two-out walks, but a final ground out ended the threat.
  • Kayla Harper led off with a single and came around to score on a throwing error by the Eagles. Goebel and Engman stood in scoring position after both tallied a single.
  • The pair came around to score on Glover's double for the 10-3 lead with just one out.
  • Abi Annett came to the plate to pinch hit and sent a slow rolling ground out towards first base to allow Glover to come home to end the game, 11-3, in six.
  • Arends finished the complete game with six hits, three runs, two earned, four walks and a pair of strikeouts for her ninth win of the season.

Game 2
Pitchers of Record

Win | Marissa Mesiemore (9-4)
Save | Taylor Bauman (2)
Loss | Morgan Clausen (3-7)

How it Happened

  • The teams were even through the final frame with FGCU producing two hits and the Ospreys tallying three.
  • In the seventh, the Eagles wore Clausen down with a pair of singles and a walk. McKenna Batterton the blasted a two-out bases clearing triple to give FGCU the win as Taylor Bauman sat the Ospreys down in order to end the game and earn the save.

Notes

  • Koskey's triple in the first game was the first of the season for UNF. McGory, Glover and Koskey all tallied a double in the first game.
  • The first five batters in the Ospreys line up had multiple hits.
  • Glover led the team with four RBI, while Koskey tallied three.
