JACKSONVILLE - North Florida men's soccer continues ASUN action against Stetson Saturday at 7 p.m. at Patton Park.
WHAT TO KNOW
- UNF opened ASUN play last weekend against FGCU, ending in a double-overtime scoreless draw. The Ospreys outshot the Eagles 17-5.
- Senior LJ Estes netted a goal in the first overtime and looked to secure the win, but it did not count due to an offsides call deep in the box.
- Junior Jovoney Brown played 62 minutes, recording four shots with one being on goal.
- Keeper Padraic Gilley led the team to its second consecutive shutout in just his second start of the season.
SCOUTING THE OPPONENT
Stetson is searching for its first win and goal of the season. The team sits at 0-2 after falling to FAU in its season-opener and then being held scoreless by Jacksonville in their ASUN opener. Against JU, the Hatters starting lineup featured six freshmen, with another five freshmen entering the game off the bench. The Hatters outshot the Dolphins 13-7, but the team was unable to net any of the shots.
SERIES HISTORY
Stetson has the edge over UNF, leading the series 11-5. The two teams last met in October 2019 with the Ospreys securing the victory, 2-1.
Bryson Smith and Laden Haig each netted a goal, Haig's coming within two minutes after Smith's. The win propelled UNF to first place in the ASUN. The teams will meet again on March 27 in DeLand.
