JACKSONVILLE - North Florida men's soccer looks to bounce back after a tough week as the Ospreys host Mercer Saturday, Feb. 13 at Episcopal High School at 11 a.m. The match is closed to the public.
The game has been moved to 11 a.m. due to impending weather in the Jacksonville area.
THE LAST TIME OUT
UNF fell short to FAU in a 1-0 loss when the Owls scored on a set piece in 31st minute. North Florida had several chances in the second half led by shots on target from Robbie Soronellas and Benedguz Burka. Carlos Melendez played 90 minutes in the net, picking up four saves.
SCOUTING THE OPPONENT
Mercer was selected as the preseason favorite for the second consecutive year given their multiple Southern Conference title wins. Trevor Martineau, Kareve Richards and JR DeRose were chosen for the 2021 Preseason All-Conference Team. Martineau was one of the top offensive weapons leading the conference with 14 goals and 10 assists, ranking fifth nationally in points. Richards plays a vital role in the backline, starting all 21 matches for the 2019 season. DeRose made 70 saves in the season and was named the SoCon Tournament's Most Outstanding Player. The Bears finished 14-7 overall last year.
SERIES HISTORY
Mercer owns an 8-5 advantage in the series and have one three straight. The teams last met in 2019 with Mercer taking the home win, 2-0. North Florida's last against the Bears was in the 2013 ASUN Tournament in Fort Myers.
