JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Head strength and conditioning coach Brian Bert is excited to announce the hiring of Reid Labenz and Marcus Richardson as assistant strength and conditioning coaches.
Reid Labenz - Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach
Labenz serves in direct oversight of the strength and conditioning efforts for the North Florida softball, women's soccer, swimming, women's tennis, women's golf and track mid-distance teams. He also aids with all other North Florida sponsored sports as needed, contributing in the implementation of the internship program and curriculum.
"I am extremely grateful for the opportunity to join the strength and conditioning staff here at UNF," Labenz said. "I am excited to be a part of the Osprey family and of the future of our program. SWOOP!"
A native of Omaha, Neb., Labenz comes to North Florida after working as a strength and conditioning graduate assistant at Cameron University (Lawton, Okla.) from January of 2020-August 2021. With Cameron, Labenz took the primary lead on designing and coordinating strength and conditioning programs for the baseball, men's golf, men's tennis and women's tennis programs.
Labenz also held internship positions with the University of Nebraska - Omaha (UNO) and University of Nebraska - Lincoln between May of 2019 and January of 2020. Prior to that he was the Creighton Prep High School Football and Warren Academy Strength and Conditioning Coach from August of 2018 to August of 2021.
Marcus Richardson - Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach
Richardson joins North Florida as an assistant strength and conditioning coach in November of 2021, bringing a variety of experience within the field and with experience as a professional football player.
"I am extremely excited to join the Osprey family," Richardson said. "I am thankful for the opportunity and I look forward to the future, future championships and the growth of this great institution."
Richardson most recently served in multiple roles at Edward Waters University between 2016 and 2021. Over those five years, Richardson served as the director of sports performance and associate athletic director for sports performance with the Tigers. He also assisted on the NCAA Transition Board as Edward Waters transitioned from its NAIA to NCAA Division II affiliation. Richardson aided in a myriad of areas including assisting with team travel, budgeting, working with coaching staffs and other administrative duties.
Prior to his time at Edward Waters, Richardson spent three seasons as the head strength and conditioning coach with the Orlando Predators of the Arena Football League, directing a staff of three. Richardson and his staff helped develop over 15 athletes that moved on to either the National Football League or Canadian Football League. His team paced the AFL in fewest ankle and knee injuries.
Richardson also had internships with Orlando City Soccer (MLS), Minnesota Twins, Troy University and Bommaritto Performance Systems. Prior to these positions, Richardson played as an outside linebacker and safety in the National Football League (NFL) with the Houston Texans (2008-09) and Indianapolis Colts (2009-10). He made a stop with the B.C. Lions of the Canadian Football League (2010-11).
