Men’s Tennis Picks Up Series of Wins on Day One at Bedford Cup

Ospreys Earn Five Singles Victories, Three Doubles Triumphs

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - North Florida men's tennis opened the fall season with day one of the Bedford Cup at Florida State, tallying a number of singles and doubles victories. UNF had a spotless mark in doubles play while earning five singles triumphs in the top draws of Flight A and B singles.

All nine Ospreys saw time in the season-opening day of play, including Breno Marques who made his UNF debut.

Matt Carroll, PJ Kotan, Jorge Nunez and Dominik Barton all secured singles victories in the first round of Flight A Singles East Draw play. Joe Ellis nabbed a win in the opening round of Flight B Singles.

North Florida didn't miss a beat in doubles, winning a trio of matches while advancing in another on a bye. 

Barton and Nunez defeated a Stetson duo in the Flight A Singles East Draw Round of 16, while Rodrigo Crespo and Jonas Hartenstein downed a FGCU pair. Nilo Duarte and Ellis teamed up to take down USF's doubles pair in the Flight B Doubles East Draw Round of 16.

North Florida has nine singles matches and four doubles matches lined up for the second day of the Bedford Cup.

BEDFORD CUP MEN, Oct 8-10

Matches start at 8:30 am daily with doubles but there will be some singles on Friday for players who are not in doubles or have byes in doubles.
* the tournament will be held at the outdoor courts as long as weather permits*

Friday - 1 doubles, 2 singles
Sat - 2 doubles, 2 singles
Sun - 1 doubles, 1 singles
 
Singles - 2 flights - compass
Flight A - 31 players 
Flight B - 14 players
Best of 3 tiebreak sets in main draw (EAST)

Two tiebreak sets, 10-point match tiebreak at one set all for all consolation matches once out of the main draw (EAST) 
New can of balls for each set. If playing the 10 point TB, use balls from second set. No new balls for TB.

Doubles - 2 flights - compass
Flight A - 12 teams
Flight B - 10 teams
One standard tiebreak set to 6, 7-point tiebreak at 6 games all
Courts assigned on a TO FOLLOW basis. Match times on the draws are to give players/coaches an estimate of playing time.  Please be prepared to play when called regardless of time. You may be NEXT UP.

COMPASS DRAW (WHICH WAY TO GO)
Compass Draw Format:
  • At the end of each round, the winners continue in their tournament in the same direction, while the losers move to other points on the compass to form a new satellite tournament.
  • At the end of round 1
  • The winners go east
  • The losers go west
  • At the end of round 2
  • The east losers go north
  • The west losers go south
  • At the end of round 3
  • The east losers go northeast (3/4 Playoff)
  • The north losers go northwest
  • The west losers go southwest
  • The south losers go southeast
