JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - North Florida men's soccer (3-5-1) will go for their second straight win when they hit the road to play in a intrastate conference game against Stetson (6-4-2) on Saturday evening at 7 pm.
WHAT TO KNOW
- Senior Jovoney Brown, who leads the team in total shots and shots on goal, and junior Bendeguz Burka have become two other multi-goal scorers this season for the Ospreys after each of them scored in their win against Lipscomb.
- Senior Giovanny Abreu is coming off his first ASUN Defensive Player of the Week honor after dishing out an assist to Burka for the game-winning goal, as well as holding the highest-scoring offense in the conference scoreless.
- Freshman Joaquin Acuna still leads the team in goals with four off of five shots on goal.
- Goalkeeper Padraic Gilley has recorded nine saves through two games, including a shutout performance this past Saturday against Lipscomb.
- Burka leads the team in minutes played with 841 total minutes through nine games, has played at least 85 minutes in each of his games, and has started in all nine games played.
SCOUTING THE OPPONENT
After starting the season 0-3-2, Stetson has rebounded by winning six of their last seven games, including a 3-1-0 record in ASUN play. They are currently on a five-game winning streak with conference wins over Lipscomb, Jacksonville, and Central Arkansas, as well as out-of-conference wins over Georgia Southern and Florida Atlantic.
The Hatters are scoring just under two goals per game with 23 total goals on the season through 12 games. Nelson Pereira leads the team with six goals and two assists through six starts. He also leads the team in total shots, 24, and shots on goal, 16.
Stetson is ranked second in the ASUN for save percentage, shutout percentage, and total goals. Pereira ranks first in the conference for total goals and shot accuracy.
