TAMPA, Fla. - North Florida women's tennis opened the fall season with day one of the Bedford Cup, earning five victories with freshman Isabel Oliveira taking home two singles wins in her collegiate debut Friday, Oct. 1.

The Ospreys competed in 14 matches between doubles and singles play throughout a variety of draws in the Bedford Cup's compass draw format.

Summer Yardley, Sean Lodzki, Annabelle Davis, Isabel Oliveira, Kendall Nash and Anslee Long all made their season debuts Friday. Oliveira and Long both made their UNF debuts. 

Highlighting the day was Oliveira's 2-0 day in Flight B West Draw singles. The freshman won her round of 32 match against Lucia Garriguez (USF), 4-6, 6-1, 1-0 (10-3). She went on to defeat Laetitia Rizk (Stetson) in straight sets, 6-1, 6-4. Oliveira goes up against Kristina Miletic (FIU), in the flight B east draw quarterfinals at 10 a.m. tomorrow.

Sophomore Annabelle Davis opened her year with a singles win in the Flight A East Draw, downing Stetson's Noa Cohen in a tiebreaker. Yardley also nabbed a win in the Flight A West Draw Quarterfinals.

Kendall Nash and Oliveira secured a doubles win for UNF in the Flight B Doubles East Draw Round of 16. The duo would drop their quarterfinals matchup.

About the Bedford Cup - 2021
TOURNAMENT FORMAT

• Singles: 2 - 32 compass draws
• Play format: 2 out of 3 sets, no ad, with a 10-point match tiebreak in lieu of a 3rd set; main draw singles finals will be a full 2 out of 3 sets; new balls for each set, 2nd set balls will be used for the match tiebreak
• Doubles: 2 – 16 compass draws
• Play format: 6 game pro set, no ad scoring, with 7-point tiebreak at 6-6; main draw doubles finals will be 1  8-game pro set with a 7 pt set tiebreak at 8 games all.
• players guaranteed at least 2 singles and 2 doubles matches        
• Order of Play - Matches start at 9am daily,   5 min warm up before each match in both singles and doubles.
• Courts assigned on a TO FOLLOW basis.
• Friday - 2 doubles, 2 singles
• Saturday - 1 doubles, 2 singles
• Sunday - 1 doubles, 1 singles

Compass Draw Format:

• At the end of each round, the winners continue in their tournament in the same direction, while the losers move to other points on the compass to form a new satellite tournament.
• At the end of round 1
• The winners go east
• The losers go west
• At the end of round 2
• The east losers go north
• The west losers go south
• At the end of round 3
• The east losers go northeast (3/4 Playoff)
• The north losers go northwest
• The west losers go southwest
