Men’s Tennis Rallies for Road Win at Georgia Southern

Ospreys Pick Up First Victory of 2021

STATESBORO, Ga. - Down a doubles point, UNF men's tennis (1-1) rallied to win four of six singles to defeat Georgia Southern (0-1) at the Wallis Tennis Center Saturday, January 30.

Rodrigo Crespo and Nilo Duarte won at three doubles but the Eagles took the top slot as the point came down to two doubles. Federico Nani and Jorge Junez took GSU's second pair to a tiebreak, but Georgia Southern hung on to go up, 1-0.

Dominik Barton defended the top slot with a 6-2, 6-4 win against Pascal Wagemaker to even the score. After Nani dropped the fourth slot in straight sets, the Ospreys rallied to win the next three points. Matt Carroll, Nilo Duarte and Rodrigo Crespo all won their matches in UNF's decisive 3-0 run.

It was Crespo's first singles win as an Osprey and UNF's first team victory of the season.

Coach Lucas' Comments
"Proud of our resiliency today. We were harping the last two weeks to stay committed to who you are as a player and I felt we did a much better job of that today. We didn't play our best that's for sure, but the way in which we competed and played the right way is a major step in the right direction. We speak to the guys about exhausting themselves mentally and physically every single day and good things will happen. It's not going to be overnight, but I'm excited to see where this group can go!" - Head coach Matt Lucas
