JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - UNF men's tennis (2-1) took doubles and started and finished strong in singles in a 6-1 defeat of Troy (6-1) Monday, February 8, from the UNF Tennis Complex. UNF handed Troy its first loss of the year.

UNF claimed the doubles point with wins at first and second doubles before Dominik Barton clinched singles with a 6-4, 2-6, 6-2 win at one singles.

Rewinding to the start of singles, Rodrigo Crespo cruised to a 6-3, 6-3 win at five singles for a 2-0 Osprey advantage. Carroll followed suit at three singles, winning in straight sets.

Troy got its lone point at second singles, but not before a resilient Barton clinched the match. 

Not lost on the day were a pair of three-set tiebreaker victories by Jorge Nunez and PJ Kotan at the six and four singles slots respectively.

Coach Lucas' Comments
"Overall it was a complete team effort. We knew Troy was good and they showed that. We were a little bit slow in doubles and we weren't playing as aggressively as I would prefer, but we picked it up and were able to sneak away with the doubles point. Then from there we had some really good performances during singles. We talked about being more committed and playing with purpose each shot, and we thought this is the best we've done that this year. We get ahead playing the right way and playing with confidence, then sometimes we hold back a little bit, and we had some glimpses of that today. But, overall it was much better and it was a good win over a quality team." - Head Coach Matt Lucas
