UNF 24': Torian Went (Taylor Martin)
Â
HOW IT HAPPENED
- North Florida dominated the first half, holding control from the kick.Â
- In the 24th minute, the Ospreys persistence paid off as Torian Went corralled the ball on the left side inside the box and slipped it into the lower left corner for the 1-0 advantage.
- The stat sheet showed two shots for Liberty. The one that held the biggest threat was on a free kick about 35-yards out,. but Padraic Gilley just stepped up to grab the ball and turn the ball back to the Osprey defense.
QUICK KICKS
- North Florida has outshot each of its opponents this season.
- UNF has now had back-to-back wins against the Flames and two straight seasons with wins to open ASUN play.
- Freshman Brennan Breuer had the Ospreys' best chance in the second half when he sprinted up the right sideline and headed towards the Liberty zone. He sent a sharp shot, but it sailed just left of the net.
FROM THE MOUTH OF MARINATOS
"At the end of the day we didn't really give them much to shoot at besides the one from distance that was just wide. I'm proud of the guys effort. We got a shutout at home and three points in conference - that is the start we talked about."
WENT FOR THE WIN
On setting the tone for ASUN play:Â
"To be honest the tone has been set before the season even began. This is just a continuation of what we have been trying to do for the entire season. In terms of conference, it is always important to win your first game so that is always good." - senior Torian Went
On the UNF defense:
"Throughout the whole season we have outshot every team and there haven't been a lot of on target. Honestly goals win games, but defense wins championships." - senior Torian Went
