COLUMBIA, S.C. - North Florida women's tennis opened up its fall campaign at the Carolina Invitational featuring South Carolina and Winthrop.
North Florida started the day with doubles wins from
Ana Paula Melilo and Lucia Montano as well as
Constanza Gorches and
Valentina Mariotto. Melilo and Montano defeated a pair from South Carolina, 6-1. Gorches and Mariotto followed suit with a 7-6(8) victory.
In singles, both Montano and
Sean Lodzki picked up wins before falling in the second round. Montano won the first round, 6-4, 6-2, while Lodzki claimed her straight-sets win, 6-2, 6-1. Montano will await her next opponent, while Melilo takes on Rafael Santos of Winthrop after a loss and a walkover.
Florencia Rossi and Lea Grinberg will play each other tomorrow in the consolation bracket after both suffering losses in the first round.
Kendall Nash won by walkover and will face Angela Georgieva of Winthrop.
The tournament continues tomorrow at 8 a.m. after ending early due to storms.
