Records Broken in Baseball’s 8-0 Shutout of Kennesaw State

Deppermann Sets UNF DI Career Innings Record, Murphy the UNF DI Steals Record

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - An early offensive explosion was backed up by another dandy from righty Brad Deppermann as the Ospreys (29-20, 10-8 ASUN) shut down Kennesaw State, 8-0, in the series opener from Harmon Stadium Friday, May 10.

A pair of UNF DI-era records were broken Friday night as Deppermann passed Kyle Westwood for the most innings pitched (234), and junior Tanner Murphy swiped his 36th bag, putting him atop the UNF charts after passing Tyler Marincov.

Behind the Line Score
  • The Ospreys batted around in the first to put up a four spot. Chris Berry and Jay Prather singled to left and Tanner Murphy cued an RBI single through the right side, scoring Berry. David Maberry knocked in Prather on a sac fly to center and Blake Marabell came up clutch with a two-out two-RBI single to complete the scoring.
  • Berry went yard to left for his fifth home run of the season, a solo shot in the bottom of the second for a 5-0 lead.
  • Murphy flared a single into short left and stole second before Wes Weeks hooked an RBI single through the left side for a 6-0 lead through two.
  • Two more came across in the third, making it 8-0 UNF. Alex Reynolds opened the inning with a bloop single to left. Marabell hit a sharp grounder to David Chabut at third, but it was mishandled. Abraham Sequera walked, Berry walked to score Reynolds and Prather scored Marabell with a sac fly to left.
  • Both teams turned in a combined 11 zeros the rest of the way as UNF's early outburst carried it past the Owls.
  • Freshman lefty Zach Chappell spun 2.0 scoreless frames behind Deppermann.
