LYNCHBURG, Va. - UNF evened the match up at 3-3 after a 3-1 deficit, but the decisive match at the five slot went the Flames' way as the hosts clipped the Ospreys (10-10, 3-2 ASUN) in a battle at the Cook Tennis Courts Saturday, April 6.
Dominik Barton and
Till Von Winning won the third doubles match, 6-3, although the Flames (11-9, 5-0 ASUN) won a pair of 6-4 matches to clinch the doubles point.
Barton was on the losing end of things at two singles, falling to the 21-11 Josh Wilson.
Nilo Duarte cut it to 2-1 after improving to 10-10 in dual-singles play. Duarte downed Ian Sturgill in straight sets, 6-3, 7-6 (7-1).
Nicaise Muamba upended
Sahil Deshmukh with his 24th triumph of the season and 13th in dual play. Von Winning completed a great day by taking a three-setter against Chase Burton at the third spot, reducing the deficit to one for the second time.
Federico Nani got UNF even for the first time, taking a grind-it-out three setter against Vince Salas. Despite a 7-5 win in the first set,
Jorge Nunez was upended in the deciding match by Eddie Gutierrez. The Flames' five-slot player won the second and third sets, 6-4.
Notes
- It's UNF's fourth match this season decided by one point.
- Nunez and Nani had their six-match doubles-winning streak snapped.
- The Ospreys are 1-7 when dropping doubles.
- This was the first-ever meeting between the two teams.
