Weeks Makes History in 10-4 Drubbing of UNA

Redshirt-Senior Becomes First Player in UNF Division I History to Have Three-Homer Game

FLORENCE, Ala. - No player in UNF Division I history has done what redshirt-senior Wes Weeks did Thursday at North Alabama.

The Green Cove Springs, Fla., native belted three home runs, becoming the first Osprey to hit three roundtrippers in a game since Ryan Soehlig did so against Valdosta State April 24, 2002.

"The first one that I hit felt really good off the bat, then I knew that I wasn't going to get another fastball all day," Wes Weeks said. "So, thankfully they hung the next one and I did what I was supposed to do with it. Then the third one I hit higher and I wasn't sure if it was going to go out, and then it did and I was just as shocked as everyone else!"

Behind the Line Score
  • Weeks' historic day started in the second. After Austin Hurwitz drew a leadoff walk, Weeks launched a two-run shot to straight-away left.
  • Alex Reynolds promptly followed with a double, took third on a wild pitch and scored via an Abraham Sequera sac fly.
  • Sequera came up with another RBI in the fourth, putting UNF ahead, 4-0. The shortstop singled, plating David Maberry after the designated hitter's double.
  • The lead ballooned to 7-0 thanks to an RBI double from Hurwitz in the fifth and Weeks' second two-run shot of the game.
  • UNA (10-27, 4-9 ASUN) got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the fifth, scoring two on three hits and a hit by pitch.
  • The Ospreys took those two back in the sixth, making it 9-2. Sequera, Blake Marabell and Chris Berry all roped singles to open the frame and Jay Prather completed the scoring with a sac fly.
  • Weeks completed the trifecta with a solo blast with one away in the seventh, making it 10-2.
  • Peyton Sockwell helped thwart Hunter Bowling's attempt at a three-inning save with a two-run homer in the ninth, but freshman Logan Clayton got the final two outs.
