CLEARWATER, Fla. - Thanks to strong pitching and hot bats, North Florida softball grabbed wins against Army and Buffalo to extend its winning streak to five games. UNF blanked Army, 3-0 before beating Buffalo, 7-1, to open the USF-Michelle Smith Pediatric Cancer Invitational.
UNF last had a five-game win streak in 2018 during the USF Series games.

How it Happened:
- North Florida didn't wait long to put runs up as it scored two in the first. Tiffany Lower led off with a single before stealing second. She came around to score on Taylor Engman's double to the wall.
- Engman then moved over, thanks to a single from Dominica Cocuzza and a walk for Navia Penrod.
- Veronika Klimplova then hit a sac fly to right field to bring in Engman and give UNF the 2-0 lead.
- Matzko and the Osprey defense allowed just two runners to reach past second through the next four innings.
- The Ospreys added to their lead in the fifth when Cocuzza singled down the line before a deep double from Penrod made it a 3-0 game.
- Matzko has now fanned five batters in back-to-back games. Blourne earned her second career save against Army.

How it Happened:
- The Ospreys broke the scoreless game in the top of the fourth when Rindy Bryant sent a two-out, two-RBI double to the wall for the 2-0 lead.
- A Buffalo miscue in the fifth allowed Megan Woodson to come across after reaching on a walk.
- The Bulls scored one with a double down the left line to make it a 3-1 game, but the Ospreys' bats came to life in the fifth to put the game out of reach.
- Back-to-back singles put runners on and with one crack of the bat, Makenzie Griffin sent her second home run of the season over the left field wall to make it a 6-1 game.
- North Florida wasn't done as Cocuzza improved her batting average with a solo shot to centerfield for the 7-1 lead.

- Both the hits and doubles records are held by Kelly Lee (1998-2001).
- With the shutout against Army, North Florida has blanked three opponents this season.
