North Florida Splits Four-Game Series With Fordham

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - In a game that ebbed and flowed as much as the on-and-off rain showers, Fordham (2-5) outlasted the Ospreys, 8-6, to force a series split at Harmon Stadium Sunday, Feb. 24.

Fordham 8, UNF 6

Pitchers of Record:
Win: John Stankiewicz (1-0)
Loss: Max McKinley (1-1)
Save: Kyle Martin (1)

Line Scores:
Fordham | 8 R, 14 H, E, 4 LOB
UNF | 6 R, 11 H, E, 9 LOB

Behind the Line Score
  • Fordham established a 3-0 lead in the second, an advantage it never relinquished.
  • A fielding error was followed up by two singles and a Billy Godrick sacrifice fly, making it 1-0.
  • A safety squeeze and a line drive single into center created the 3-0 lead.
  • Senior Jay Prather started his big day with a leadoff single in the second. Tanner May walked before designated hitter Max Law hooked an RBI single through the left side, scoring Prather.
  • Tanner Clark walked and Fordham's catcher Justin Bardwell was handcuffed on a fastball, allowing a passed ball to bring May in.
  • Fordham's starter Alvin Melendez helped his own cause with a ringing double into the left center gap, scoring Jake MacKenzie from first. Bardwell plated his battery mate with a single, making it 5-2 Rams going into the bottom of the third.
  • Fordham's Jake Baker and Prather traded solo home runs to right in the fifth, making it 6-3.
  • The bats quieted on both sides until the eighth. Bardwell completed a big day with an RBI double down the line, widening Fordham's lead.
  • North Florida cut the deficit to 7-6 with a three-run eighth.
  • May, Alex Reynolds and pinch hitter Austin Hurwitz sprayed three singles to load the bases with one out. Clark connected for a two-RBI single that ricocheted off second base, scoring Reynolds and May.
  • Fordham went to its bullpen again. Reliever Cory Wall coaxed a sharp grounder to second base, but Justin Machado kicked the ball, loading the bases.
  • Chris Berry bounded a ball up the middle that resulted in a six-unassisted fielder's choice, allowing pinch runner Alex Hendricks to score.
  • Tanner Murphy fouled out to the pitcher to end the threat. Melendez tacked on an RBI single in the eighth before Fordham's Kyle Martin turned a perfect ninth.
