Missouri Holds Off Ospreys, 5-4

Weeks Ties UNF Record for Most Consecutive Hits

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Game two of UNF and Missouri's three-game series had a lot of elements of the Ospreys' 5-4 victory last night.

This time the 5-4 result went in favor of the Tigers as junior Kameron Misner slugged two key home runs to help visiting Missouri hold back UNF.

Pitchers of Record:
Missouri | Konnor Ash (1-0)
  • Save: TJ Sikkema (1)
UNF | Ethan Michaelis (0-1)

Line Scores:
Missouri | 5 R, 10 H, 0 E, 4 LOB
UNF | 4 R, 11 H, 0 E, 12 LOB

Behind the Line Score
  • Misner's big day started in the first when he doubled to deep center, scoring Mark Vierling to give the Tigers a 1-0 lead.
  • Jay Prather's two-RBI single back up the middle continued the back-and-forth scoring this weekend as UNF took a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the second.
  • Third baseman Austin James singled to leadoff the second, stole second and moved up to third on a groundout to Prather at second. Righty Brandon Reitz uncorked a wild pitch, bringing James home.
  • UNF threatened in the second before Misner unloaded for a solo home run to right in the third, putting Mizzou on top, 3-2.
  • A pair of newcomers recorded their first hits at UNF to set up a two-run third. Blake Marabell singled and stole second before senior Alex Reynolds walked. Junior transfer Tanner May hooked a two-RBI double into the corner, scoring two for the 4-3 lead.
  • Misner tied it up with a home run in the fifth, this time down the left field line.
  • The decisive run resulted from a leadoff walk in the top of the sixth. Catcher Chad McDaniel coaxed a walk and stole second before designated hitter Peter Zimmerman scored him with a double.
  • From there the bullpens went to work as Mizzou held on to its 5-4 lead.
  • Prather poked a pair of leadoff singles, one in the seventh and the other in the ninth, but lefty reliever TJ Sikkema closed the door for his first save of the year.

Notes
  • UNF outhit the Tigers, 11-10, although UNF stranded 12.
  • Weeks is 8-for-9 to start the season and went to the plate seven times before being retired, tying a UNF record. The last time an Osprey recorded seven consecutive hits was Travis Martin in 2008. Martin also did so in 2007. Weeks is the fourth player to record such a feat in school history, making it the fifth time overall.
  • Reitz fanned five in his first start as an Osprey.
  • May picked up his first hit as an Osprey, a two-RBI double.
  • Berry walked three times Saturday. He has 91 walks for his career, good for seventh all-time in UNF history.
  • Miller only permitted two hits in 2.2 innings of work.
  • This is the first of four games against an SEC opponent for UNF this season.

Coach's Comments
"The goal in baseball is to win every weekend. We gave ourselves that chance by winning last night and we had a bunch of chances today to do it again today, but we cam up just short. You have to give them credit. They are going to throw another lefty at us tomorrow so we will make some more adjustments and go from there." - Head coach Tim Parenton
