Jackson Leads Ospreys Past Holy Cross

JACKSONVILLE - A fourth quarter surge propelled by senior Adrienne Jackson pushed North Florida women's basketball to a 80-60 win against Holy Cross Saturday at UNF Arena.

With 4:09 left in the fourth quarter, Holy Cross (6-4) missed a short jumper that would have closed the game to four, but the Ospreys grabbed the rebound and sent it up the floor for Jackson who hit her fourth three of the game to put the game out of reach.

North Florida (6-6) dominated in the fourth quarter, outscoring Holy Cross 24-6 in the final frame.

INSIDE THE GAME
  • The first half was a back-and-forth affair as there were seven lead changes and two ties. 
  • North Florida owned an 18-13 edge after the opening frame and held the visitors to just 28.6 shooting.
  • In the second frame, UNF took its biggest lead of the first when Green made a lay up to make it 20-13. 
  • Holy Cross closed in with back-to-back buckets to close the gap 20-18.
  • The teams traded baskets over the next few minutes before the Crusaders used a 10-3 run to lead 37-36 at the break.
  • The Crusaders pushed its lead to seven early in the third before the teams began to trade baskets and after three, UNF owned a 56-54 lead.
  • In the final frame, UNF outscored the visitors 24-6 thanks to 11 points from Jackson.

  • Green tallied her second double-double and third of her career.
  • Jackson bested her career high of 21 last set in November 2018.
  • UNF grabbed nine steals - its highest output against a Division I opponent this season.
  • The Ospreys shot 51 percent from the floor. The only better outing was against Warner (52.6).
  • Holy Cross came into the game as the top three-point shooting team in the country, averaging a 45 percent clip. The Ospreys held them to just 25 percent from long range.
  • UNF made seven or more three-pointers for the sixth time this season with eight today.

"This was a great team win. We did a solid job in the fourth quarter defending and rebounding. I'm really happy about how we responded to their runs! We had a few different players make huge plays at many different points in the game and that was really exciting to see!" - head coach Darrick Gibbs.
